Never ever heard of one going bad. AFAIK it's in the tank with the pump.

Re: fuel pressure regulator

ok, just went out and looked at mine. It's on the crossover tube. Follow the fuel line in. It goes to the regulator. There's a vacuum line connected to the regulator to control the pressure. The fuel then comes out of the reg and into the crossover tube and from there fills the fuel rails.

To be hones, I am not sure how you'd replace it. Didn't look user serviceable to me. You may have to replace the fuel rail assembly instead.

Mike look closer. To regulate fuel pressure you have to have a way to bleed the extra fuel back to the tank. There is no return fuel line on an LS1 f-body because the fuel pressure regulator is in the gas tank.

Re: feul pressure regulator

I was kind of wondering the same thing. My buddy just bought a 98 SS. The car doesn't want to start sometimes. They guy he bought it off of said it was the regulator, and pointed out the thing on the crossover tube. That is actually the fuel pressure dampner. Are you guys sure its in the tank? Could the starting problem be something else?

Symptoms:
-Only happens when its warm. Starts right up when its cold.
-The motor doesn't crank and crank, it sputters and then dies.
-Will immidiately start following a sputter.
-Happens about once every 10-15 starting attempts.

Any ideas?

Thanks all,
BIZ

Re: feul pressure regulator

It's easy to rule out the fuel system instead of guessing. Get a fuel pressure guage to hook to the fuel rail. Pressure should be around 60psi and not fall off real fast after shutting the motor off. If it's the pump or regualtor then the fuel pressure will be down. If it pumps up good but falls fast after shutting the motor off then you have a leaky injector.
