Fast Toys Ram Air questions.

I am worried about driving in rain with a FTRA. Has anyone has problems with water going up? I did the Free Ram Air mod and was considering doing the FTRA. I read somewhere (maybe their site) that you would see horse gains of about 10 over the Free Ram Air mod. Why is this so? Can anyone explain.

If I remember correctly, the FTRA has a block off plate which will prevent water from being sucked in. There has been many threads on this in the past. From what I've gathered, you'll be fine as long as you don't go through some seriously huge puddles (ones that you shouldn't go through on any basis). If the block off plate does come with the kit, I don't see why anyone couldn't put it on before driving on a day its raining. Its not like you're going to race that day anyway.

I agree. I dealt with him a few times in the past (prior to forming DMS). Great person to deal with! I recommend him

In a word ... yes. Between this board and LS1.com. I've seen 3 different posts where someone hydrolocked thier engine with the FTRA. The depth of the water was described from as deep as 8" to just covering my shoes.

Also be aware that the FTRA is also canabalizing air from your engine cooling system. If you're in a moderate climate area, probably not an issue. But people who live in areas where summer temps are consistantly over 100* have ATAPed higher engine operating temps - still within spec, but higher.

Good Luck

No problem's yet

Just don't floor it in the rain and you should be fine.

I drive mine in the rain too and haven't had a problem. I've been in a few situations where I was hydroplaning because there was so much water on the road, and I still didn't have a problem with leaving my FTRA open. Should I have closed it, probably but I didn't and things worked out just fine...

As long as you aren't trying to turn your car into a submarine you should be fine.

Ok. I will place the order today. You guys think that along with the dyno lid I just ordered will give me some nice gains? Around how much with the dyno lid / RAM air combo?

I never had to use my block off plate for my FTRA until this past week. Since I'll be driving my car in the winter I was worried about all the sand and crap on the road due to the snow. Lost my block off plate so I duct taped up the area and it's a good thing I did. There was already sand trapped in my filter from the snow ploughs!
