Question Fan switch question?

I installed a fan switch from SLP on my 2000 SS. I also have the cold air induction, air module sensor, 160 degree themostat, the whole combonation to make the engine run cooler, I thought. I took it for a drive today ran the fan on high after it got up to operating tempture to see if the tempture would go down and it did not. What am I missing or doing wrong.

Yeah, don't go by the guage. I have a 160 tstat and fans programmed to come on early - still reads about 210 at normal operating temps.

so what would be the best way to find out what the temp actually is. It reads just under 210

You need to read it with ATAP, Predator, etc. If you want real temps all the time you'll need to install a guage. I have LEDs wired to my low/high speed fans - green lights when low speed is on, red when both are on at my programmed temps. When the car is real cold/real hot the guage is correct - it just reads about 210 when in it's "normal" range. Hopefully someone will come up with a fix one day for us 99-02 guys.

Today I got a scan tool from Murrays and plugged into my car in the garage. You guys seem to be 100% right that the gauge is not completely accurate. Just sitting in the garage I got the car to drop to 169degrees F . The dash gauge don't hardly move at all and the scan tool temp drops almost 40 degrees. That seems to me that gm factory equipment should be better than that for 20+ thousand dollars. Thanx for the input guys you saved me a bunch of aggrevation, thought something was wrong with my car.

Angry

the thing that makes me nervous is that guage is so sloppy. I watched the scanner monitor the temp the entire time I had started the car, and theres very little change from the time that it gets to around 150 to 210. Thats a 50 or 60 degree fluctuation, so when or if you were to start to overheat the temp would go 50 or 60 degrees before you could be able to notice.

The gauge isn't sloppy. It was designed that way on purpose. So many people freak and run to the dealer when there heat guage moves around a lot under normal driving. So to reduce warrantee calls and cost they designed a guage that would pop up to a certain setting and stay there from about 170 to 220. In essence a fancy idiot light with a dial.
