Re: Factory Exhaust? Skip Shift?

I never did any free mods to my car, they're basically a waste of time. As for the skip shift it really comes down to a matter of opinion, however most people tend to feel it allows them to have more control of shifting and not allow a computer to determine which gear to shift into, thats why I got a M6 and not the auto.

Re: Factory Exhaust? Skip Shift?

as for the skip shift... you are telling me that you are say in traffic and going at a whopping 15mph and for some reason you feel that the torque from 1st gear is too much and that you want a little less torque but to keep the speed at about 20mph so 2nd is the only gear you are wanting.. not 3rd or 4th.. just 2nd... because its only locking you out of 1 gear.
No I am telling you that when I take off from a light and go to shift to second under normal driving and I cannot (due to the skip shift) and have to go to third. It decideds to come on right at the point where I like to shift, 1800-2200 rpms. That is a PITA.
Personally it is a crap design. They say it is to save on gas mileage, but it is just nerve racking.

But everyone has their opinion on this part. Some don't mind and others do.

Re: Factory Exhaust? Skip Shift?

I dont like the skip shift because I have been driving a M6 since 93 and still have not gotten use to it. I think in many cases it can cause accidents, especially if your not familar with it!

Ive gotten into trafic a couple of times knowing 2nd would pull me into traffic easliy and then all off a sudden you relize your not going into secound after a couple of failed attempts! So you go to third or fourth(what ever gear you can get as traffic nears) only to watch the car in back come up to your bumper. At this low speed letting the engine in 3rd or 4th catch up to your foot is not fun.

I seem to recall GM saying it was only to save gas, but it was really to avoid the gas guzzler tax that wouldve came with these cars.

Anywayz, in my opionion for the price and ease of instalation get the eliminator!

Re: Factory Exhaust? Skip Shift?

Go to Radioshack and buy a resistor for under $1 for skip shift.

I got rid of skipshift because I hate going from 1-4 at low RPM, it BOGS the engine. I'd rather go 1-3 or 1-2-4. I have found the LS1 gets better milage when you keep it near the 2k RPM range. Why would you want to take away all the mechanical advantage of lower gears to make the engine work harder to accelerate in 4th? This is exactly what skip shift does for you.
