F14 install and Dyno numbers

So i finally got this F14 (232/234-112+4) install as well as my ls2 timing chain and ls6 oil pump. I went and had it dyno tuned and pulled 403.4 HP and 376.8 Torque. I was told this cam put well over 400 to the ground. I was kind of expecting about 425 hp or somewhere close to that range. Was I expecting to much? Or is that about average for my mods? What can I bolted on to get to that number besides heads? (heads will be in a year or two) I was told to get an pulley and that would add like 7-10hp. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I have emptied my cats. I basically has straight pipes from my y-pip to my flow master muffler. I also have a cutout (which was open when on dyno). Last time I dyno my car after I got headers, I tried once with my cutout closed and once with it open. I only saw about 2 hp difference on top end with it opened, and saw a 2 hp gain mid range with it closed. Will I see more then 2 hp with it open now that I have a cam? or will it be about the same?

That's on par for the regular F-14. Someone confused that one with the F-14 HL? The Highlift stuff makes great cam-only numbers and power, but it's not usable on aftermarket heads that are decked at all.

Anything over 400rwhp is good for cam-only. I dont know who you were getting your info from, but a TRUE 425rwhp on a cam-only LS1 car is going to be a hard feat unless you also have an underdrive pulley and a wilder cam.

I would enjoy your cam because there's alot of room to grow with it. You can always slap some heads and FAST intake system on and pick up another 50rwhp.

From what I've heard, Dart 225 heads with the F14 cam is a good set up
That would be the H/C setup for me about a year or so in the future

whoever told you 425rwhp from the F14 was smoking something.

on stock heads and basic boltons you should be happy with anyting 395-405rwhp.

just about any heads will compliment that cam well, all depends on your budget.

smaller runners will boost low end power.

So will my car act any different with a set of heads? (other then more hp) I mean will drivability stay the same, and will it sounds the same? Its not a daily driver but still curious if anything changes except adding hp.

Just wondering I noticed you at 3.73 Gear's with the M6.Is the 4.11 Gear to much for what you want for the car as far as usage. Is it that you think that with a 4.10 Gear you might mess up the rear end?? Just wondering as Im trying tolearn these car's myself.

I use to have 4.10 gears in my 97 camaro, but i made the mistake of not doing my complete suspension and tires and always spun tires in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. At that point I never used the 1st gear. I always took off in 2nd, even in stop and go traffic. When I tore up my 3.42, I just went up one step to 3.73, until I got the rest of my car done. I would always race motorcycles and my 4.10 gears would run out at over 130-mph. I could feel it not pulling as hard. When I put in 3.73, I could fell it begging for more even after 150 mph.

Does anyone know If I changed to bigger rims, if I would have to change anything to my car. I am running on stock 16X9's and looking to go to 17X11 maybe in back (unless there is a better size). I have BMR lower control arms, but I think I might need relo brakets?!? Also, I need some drag radials and was wondering if I can drive with them if I ever had to in everyday traffic without a problem? Even at high speeds?

You just thought the 4.11 Gear was to much as far as wheel spin for the LS1?? I noticed alot of guy's having the 4.11 Gear's and with that cam that would make quite a difference. Its probably not a big deal if this is a car that you mainly drive on the street.I don't know if the F14 Cam is considered big for a LS1 engine. If it is a rather lofty cam the more Gear the better.Still should get great gas mileage but im not sure about the traction because if your 97 had problems with traction then a LS1 car I would think would be just as bad.Although I seen some video's of LS1 car's with 4.11's and traction did not look like a major problem. Its trial and error with every car i think.

From what I believe, the lt1 have a lot more torque down low then the ls1 so I think that could be the part of the problem with traction in my 97 camaro. I also didnt do nearly as many suspension mod on my 97 as I have my ls1. But now I am looking at getting some stock 17" as I have the stock 16" now. Then getting some 555r's, so that should help a lot on my traction. My wife's G37 is beating me bad from a stop after my cam install because of no traction. She would be a couple car lengths ahead and then I would scream by her after about 60 or 70 mph.

Unless you completely mismatch the cylinder heads to the application, the drivability will be near the same. Camshaft selection changes drivability much more than the heads do. A head with a runner volume of 210cc or less and you won't notice much difference. Once you start getting over 225cc is when you begin to notice the lack of low speed response. Why not contact Futral for their cylinder head recommendation? Personally I would recommend for a quality budget head PRC or Livernois, and AFR or TrickFlow for a high dollar aftermarket piece.

OLD 69: 4.10 gears are near perfect for most mild 6 speed combinations, even stock. Remember the 6 speed has a .5:1 overdrive. The only problem with the 4.10s is they are prone to breaking. Ideally for a cam the size of the F14 you would want a 12 bolt or 9" with a 4.30 or even a 4.56 gear if you've got the chassis to go with it.
