exhaust

i got a 98 ls1 black trans am...i just purchased the magnaflow exhaust system...i cant wait to put it on but theres some things holding me back...first my cats are clogged and the papa dukes will be gay if it is too loud if i run it with the magnaflow and no cats and theres always that chacne of not passing emissions. Should i just get 2 new 2.5in cats and run it with the magnaflow or just run the magnaflow and gut the cats?

open to all suggestions!!!!!

Well you could shell out the cash and get some high flow cats that way if and when you do some LT's you should be able to pass the sniffer test....but I wouldn't get them welded in just incase you do decide to do LT's and y-pipe. Or you can gut the ****** and call it good, that is if you think you can pass emissions. The Magnaflow should still sound ok with the gutted cats....but it's gonna be loud

Gutting the cats will cause turbulence and cost you power. Do it right and put a straight pipe through them.

You can get magnaflow/carsound hi-flow cats off ebay pretty cheap (under $60).

Another option. The cats have a federally mandated 8 year 80000 mile warranty. If you don't have that many miles, get the dealer to replace them.

There are many cars that can't pass emissions testing with cats. I doubt that you will pass with them gutted. And, as stated above, the turbulence will cost you power. I'd use an offroad pipe if I were going to remove them. Or just put Daisy under the car....

if you are worried about noise, put an 18" bullet muffler in the Ipipe...i did it and it tones down the exhaust nicely...but doesn't affect horsepower.

If you don't use O2 sims or have the rear O2 sensors deleted it will.

however:

an SES light triggered by deletion of the cats DOES NOT affect how the car runs. it is only an idiot light to let the driver know the cats aren't functioning (or arent there )

so if you can live with the light...you don't need sims right away
