sounds the same in real life, except the exhaust note at higher rpm's is clearer since it's so loud the mic on the camera kinda gets hissy.

I have the QTP elec cutout, sounds like a horse falling into a garbage can, but I can close it and run my full exhaust with the quiet spintech muffler when I want. With LT's and no cats, you really can't expect a cutout to sound anything other than RASP. It only sounds good at WOT.

I usually don't chime in here but I had a cutout, then went to a loudmouth, then a hooker cat back. I had to throw a cutout on my hooker because I wanted LOUD! I love how cutouts sound. The only thing I like better is corsa but I don't have the cash for that. I plan on ordering a electric cut out when I get enough cash and then I"m in heaven

Hell i dont think any thing sounds like a cut out. You just cant beat the WOT sound of V8. just my opinion.

The video sounded awesome,

I like the sound, with a cam - otherwise it just sounds like a loud obnoxious, stock car.

Electric Cutouts are way to go

I use a quality DMH performance electric cutout on my Borla Exhaust and love it! I use JBA headers with a hollow cat and the sound is mellow and mean when corked (no drone on highway), and really bad-*** when opened up. However, I definitely look for cops before I open it up fully. The only negative sound when fully open is the slight popping sound of the exhaust when engine braking the M6 tranmission from higher revs.

Granted my engine is putting out only about 360 flywheel horsepower. Maybe a stoker with a cam or compressor might sound more objectionable.

As far as rattles, check the routing of the exhaust and secure it better. Sometimes header heat barrier cloth can be wrapped around interference points or to dampen resonances where rattles could occur (ie. gas tank heat shield sheetmetal).

GrdLockV6...I'm sure you like them but like I've stated before, they sound like total A$$ to me. Same thing with the LM. I just hate the sound of an unmuffled V8(especially an LS1). Nothing will change my opinion of this.

And to me, even a wide-open Borla sounds better than any cutout. About 25% or so of the exhaust still goes through the muffler while those intercooled tips also help alter the tone a little. Again, I've heard both, and they do sound different enough to the point where I can easily hear the difference. Besides, if I spent $600 on a Borla, I'd mainly buy it because I love the looks(while the sound/adjustability would be second).

I agree that a cut-out isn't for everybody but a what's the dif between a Borla and just making plates with different size holes to adjust the sound? The only electric I've had is a McCord. It started leaking bad enough after approx. 6 thousand miles that I ditched it and just decided to make some plates. I've done two so far. One with an iron cross style design. One with a flower pedal type design. If you wanted I guess you could just drill a hole. I'll try to get some pics up tommorrow.
