I have thrown bad catalyst codes, and I drive around with my cut out open all the time. A buddy of mine runs a speed shop and he told me its from having my cut out open all the time. And its probobly not the cat, but more likely its the 02 sensor. when you have the cut out open all the time it can suck in cold air, which messes with the 02's.

Question

Unless your cutout is installed on the Y-pipe, before the cats, I don't see how a cutout could mess up your cat?

I run around with mine open most of the time (installed under the back seat) - never threw any codes. A bad cat will throw code 0420 or 0430 depending on which bank it is. I see alot of posts on bad cats on 2000/early 2001 models. A friend of mine just had his driver's side cat replaced (0420) without a cutout at 22K miles.

Why dont you just get you two 02 simms and forget about the cats all together?

They are small plug in modules that trick the 02 sensors into thinking that all is kosher in smogville.
Lots of people want to gut their cats or run off-road pipes without converters and on OBDII cars it will trip a check engine light. Buy the O2 simms , normally called Mil Eliminators and plug them into your rear O2 sensors and you wont have any more problems.
In my opinion they are a butt load cheaper than new converters.

I've had my cutout open for over a moth now without problems. But then my car came with O2 simms and I have programming that got rid of the codes so I don't need the O2 simms anymore.
