Everyone with a 2002 and LS6 block inside...
Can you guys please post your build dates? I have a 2002 that didnt come with the LS6 block, and neither did my dads, but my brother's did, and we're trying to figure out how our cars can be so close in build dates and have different blocks...I mean, did they do like every 5th car or what? If anyone knows, please post!!
Thanks!!!!!!!

I was under the impression that they just went into the cars in no specific order. Just was luck of the draw to as which block the engine builder had then put in the car. I still have to look to see what I have, but I don't think it is hte LS6 block. Either way it is still one great engine.
I had heard it was 25% of the 2002's that got them..
Mine was built in May 2002..
I doubt any HUMAN had anything to do with it.. it was prolly entirely computerized.. such as an assembly line and matter of order of production predictated..
At mercedes every engine and tranny and car body is matched before its built and controlled by computers on when it gets where and when they come together.. its a thing of wonder to watch then in production... I would be driving an AMG C230 Coupe if we had them here.. BUT NOOOOOOO! only the euros get them! rat bastards!
hehe

how exactly were you able to see it? I have read several ways but its never clear enough for me (newb) to understand. If someone were to say something like "look a few inches past the exhaust manifold, or cats or something.. and in a certain direction.." that would help me more than left hand deck which is greek to me..
The easiest way i've done it is to look at the front of the passenger side head and look where it meets to the block. You'll more than likely just see an indented circle which means LS1. If it's smooth, then you've got the LS6. I have pics on my home computer... but you can also do a search as there was a long thread about how to look with a bunch of pics too.

Just open the hood and look down where the passenger head meets the block. If you see a little circle on the BLOCK, not the head, then you have an ls1 block. If it is smooth, then LS6 block. The circle is referred to as a "bullseye" in other threads and is about the size of a dime.
