I've never had wheels cave in like that! With no damage or sign of any kind of wear or contact on the actual rubber itself!

Your thoughts!?

So it basically looks like wheel itself cracked? I have never seen a crack like that located where it is. Usually the crack will stem from the edge of the wheel by the rim inwards. It looks like your crack started from the middle?

I had a very similar problem with one of my SS rims. I noticed that my car began to vibrate over 50, so I took the tires back to have them balanced and they discovered the same thing with a smaller crack though and more of a bulge. Discount tire sent the rim off somewhere for 100.00 and I got it back fixed with a 1 yr guarentee.

That looks like impact damage, but you'd have to hit a narrow object about centered on the tire. If the object wasn't sharp you might not see any tire damage. When you dismount the tire, note the position on the wheel and look for any marks on the inner surface of the tire in the damaged area.

This impact could have been quite a while ago and it started a fatigue crack that finally went thru. Pop was the final fracture and air escaping.

One other possibility: weak or porous area in the casting at the failure point. I'll bet on impact, however.

My $.02

Those looks like the pics of Zack's wheel that he posted in the lounge. Aparantly he got a bolt in hs tire and driving on it cracked the inside and bulged it out.
