Electrical fire....
Okay, I just got off of a plane from Japan this evening. I've been gone for almost a month. My roomate tells me that my car was smoking really bad, and that he had to disconnect the battery. Turns out that the bosch unit that is connected to the ABS is fried. The wires in the wire harnes are burnt, and some of them are with out insulation. (what a hell of a thing to come home to...) Anyways, I talked to my friend Tom, and he said that they had started the car, and it ran fine, then about 10 seconds after starting it, the wire harness started smoking again.
Anyone had this problem before?? I'm going to have it towed to the local dealer to see what the prob is.
Any guessing on how much this will cost, and the extent of the wiring damage??

How many miles on your car?
I had a similar problem on my 99 gmc truck. The ABS computer just started clicking like it was pumping the brakes. I unplugged it at the ABS fuse. It fried the ABS computer and may have caused damange to the body computer due to the heat. My truck had 50k on it a friend had the same thing happen on his truck at 56k. $850 for the ABS computer with labor. ouch.

In the GP section Tbyrne has a ABS brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) and electronic brake/traction control module (EBTCM) for $200. Just make sure you get directions on how to properly bleed it out if you install yourself.
Well guys, I had the car the car towed to the dealer, because she wouldn't run. And it's not good news. It was so bad that it fired the entire engine wire harness. They have to replace the whole thing, and the abs controler. From what my roommate said, there was allot of white smoke that poured outta enginebay when he popped the hood. Damn, didn't wanna hear this when I get home. So they estemate it around $3500 worth of damage and labor. I'm checking to see if my insurance will cover it.
Wish me luck.
