EGR Removal

What do I have to do to remove my EGR system so I can install a LS6 intake manifold.

Unbolt it and take it off and block off all of the places on the exhaust. Then have it programmed out of the pcm.

if it is removed, is it crucial to reprogram imediately?

or will it function fine just set off the SES light?
