EGR, AIR, Emissions, Headers

Whats the deal with EGR and AIR, I read that the AIR pump is for the cats. I have 2000 and I just bought a z06 air intake. I'm getting headers soon. Should I keep EGR/AIR or ditch it. I realize they have to do with emissions, and while in OK we don't have inspections, If its really bad I'm not too keen on killing the earth since, I drive my car alot as a daily driver. If its only going to cost my 10hp, I'll help save the planet (I'm not bashing those who have taken out EGR/AIR). But I aslo read that EGR is just to keep the exhaust hot or something and when you get a bigger cam (which I intend to do) you don't need EGR to do that anymore. I would like to take EGR/AIR out to reduce weight, but I'm currious just how much hp I'm sacraficing, and how much of a diff in emissions there is. thx

A LS1 breathing it's own fart is not a good thing. That was my discussion with GM tech prior to removal.

could you clarify "good thing" please. Is it not a good thing for performance, or something else? What tech was it that you were talking to, someone other than working at a dealership?

Sorry my for the sarcasim. I meant that the EGR was'nt a good thing in terms of performance. Pumping hot exhaust gas back into
the intake increase's intake temperature. Removing the EGR feed will allow for a cooler intake charge. Horsepower wise I am not sure what it is worth. On a side note it is easier to remove the plugs without the EGR system.

On the down side you will set a SES code. You can leave the unit inplace without plumbing to fix the SES problem. In all honesty it may not be worth messing with for the small advantage gained. I have seen several cars dyno well in to 400 RWHP ( and sure higher) range and running the EGR system.

thanks for your help, I understand now. Do you know anything about the AIR system and the disadvantages of removing it like emission requirements.

If you don't have emissions testing, do yourself a favor and rip all that **** out and have it edited from the computer.

Im from Illinois. It depends if I am gonna get lucky or not... I tuned my computer already I have no SES light on anymore, but sometimes they like to take a look underneath of your car if it sounds suspicious. Well mine sounds loud as hell and you can smell the gas. I hope I will pass...somehow.
