Are Edelbrock Tes Shorties Worth The Hp Gain??

..just Caught An Episode Of Horsepower Tv On Spike. They Were Working On A 98 Ls1...they Stuck A Set Of Edelbrock Tes Shorty Headers On It. All I Was Wondering Was If Anyone Had These Shorties And If They Are Really Worth The Hp Gain And How Durable They Are...unfortunately, I Live In California So Lt Headers Are Not An Option.....

You don't get much gain from Shorties, maybe 5 to 7 HP. You could do that much by taking off your exhaust manifolds and having them ported. + you'll save $$

On a 98 or 99 in an emmisions state they are the best that you can do and yes they will gain some hp. Nothing like long tubes but worth the effort if you can buy them cheap. Buddy just got a new set of stainless steel Edelbrocks off of e-bay for less than $150.
Now on a 00 or newer it would be a total waste of money and time.

5-7 hp is better than nothing. And you can NOT port 98-99 LS1 manifolds as they are a thin tubular design, not cast iron like the 00 and up.

What I should have said was that for the $$$ (I've seen shorties go as high as $600) a 5 horse power gain is not worth it IF you can port your own headers. Didn't mean to offend anyone.

Just run some 00 manifolds. Flows almost as well as shorties plus they'll have the EGR crap that the 01-02's don't.
