You either have a 2.73 or 3.23 gear ratio.
reproduction numbers:
3.23=GU5
2.73=GU2

------------------
white 98 V6 A4 3.8l Camaro, t-tops, Leather, JVC stereo, Pioneer speakers, xeneon headlights, power antenna, dynomax muffler, K&N air filter, custom ram air, and a whisper lid. (sold 7-13-02 to my brother) now my car is a 99 Camaro SS with all the bells and whistles.

The gears should be 3.23's, cause I think that the SS and WS6 come standard with the "Performance Axle" option, vs the Z28 and T/A which come standard with 2.73's (with 3.23's as an option).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but otherwise, the gears should be 3.23's.

you have 3.23 gears (GU5). You can't get 2.73 gears with an A4 SS or WS6 F-Body.

I have a question on the WS6's -

Do they come standard w/ the 3.23's ?

The reason I ask is that I saw one new on the lot & the performance axle option was not listed anywhere on the sticker.

And, look @ this !!

http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro/index_features.htm

About 3/4's of the way down they have the performace axle listed as optional on the SS !!!

Wonder if that would help my mileage ??

you have 3.23s but i am not positive i think that it was 01 when they switched to the 3.42.

98 Z28, Onyx Black, A4, t-tops, other than the free mods, a random tech cat back, and a whisper lid, it is stock

The Perfomance Axle Ratio 3.23 ratio is a $300 option on the WS6 with the automatic transmission. This was one of the options that I required on my Bird, 2.73's were standard.
3.42's were available on automatic trans 3.8 Camaros and Firebirds equipted with the Perfomance and Handling package as my RS was.
I believe you could special order SS and Firehawks with this ratio only with automatics.

the 3.23 (GU5) is a 'mandatory' option on SS/WS6 cars equipped with the A4 tranny.
