This beggs the question is it necessary or even practical?

yeah i'm wondering the same thing.. Is it WORTH 50 dollars and an extra filter every change? If this will almost eliminate metal and carbon particles, then hell ya i'm buying one..

It's worth it to me! As for it being worth it to you I don't know. An extra quart of oil and twice the filtration, seems worth $50 to me.

Re: Dual remote oil filter kit...

How about spending $40 on some oil analysis to see if you even need double filtration?

You'll probably find out you'll save $8/oil change on the extra filter and most likely find out you can go longer between oil changes if running synth.

If you're THIS worried about your oil, IMO an oil analysis would be a logical preliminary step.

The other thing to think about is how will this set up effect your oil pressure?

Re: Dual remote oil filter kit...

My oil pressure is about 70lbs running and 60lbs at idle. I am not concerned about the quality of my oil, I use Amsoil 0W30 and change it and the filter every 7500 miles. I want my nice new rebuilt engine to last a long long time. I have already done oil analysis and it turned up nothing unusual or bad.

How much more power do you expect it to eat up? Having more head losses through your oiling sytem is going to cause your positive displacement oil pump to consume more power.

Also, you probably wouldn't have to change the second filter. I doubt it would see an appreciable amount of metal. Maybe service it every three oil changes?

If I remember correctly, the filters run in parallel. It's not a dual with bypass, so it should be parallel.

That is what your prussure is NOW, but it may very well be different after this.

Also, if your oil analysis was OK with your change interval, I can't see where running another filter is going to help. Its just overkill and possibly requires more volume than your oil pump can efficiently handle which would actually reduce the efficiency of your oil system. Kind of like when people run high volume oil pumps for better oiling but they don't realize that it can suck the sump dry at high RPM's.

Just some things to research before buying it just because its an "extra filter." More isn't always better.
