Test drove a 1998 vette, why does it seem to just have more accleration than my 1999 Z28. Is it the gearing or the rear end ratio?

There is minor HP and Torque difference, but in my opinion there has to be
something else, it was an A4 and when it hit second, the car jerked and
I got some wheel squeal.

I think the hp is 345, also it is lighter, etc. And there later after 99 it was up to 355.

99 z28 have 310?

little more hp, lighter and more aerodynamic

and the tranny shifting different is all in the programing of the computer.

also realize it probably had 18" tires, which is less sidewall so the grip could have been less than the big sidewall of a 16" tire.

LS1 f-bodies are underrated. They generally dyno 300-315 rwhp which equates to ~ 350 flywheel hp. The LS1 in f-bodies is essentially the same as the LS1 in Vettes (save for a slightly different cam profile and true dual exhaust).

and not many pre-01 cars dynoed that high...particularly autos.

they were usually putting out numbers closer to 290...yes still underrated but the vette still had the advantage.

An A4 Vette (of the same year) would dyno ver close to an A4 f-body...with the f-body often making a few more hp (due to it's live axle). The only real advantage the Vette has is it's weight and aerodynamics. The RWHP is generally pretty close.

Yes, it's predominantly autos dynoing in the 290 range. I have seen a ton of 98-00 6 speeds in the 300-310 range.

The feeling of acceleration is heightened by the Vettes lower ride-height and lighter weight, but all things equal the Vette probably is only a hair quicker.

When I had my 2002 z28 and my dad had a 2003 C5 they would be very close i a race.
I noticed that the vette "felt" much faster when driving it. I think the main reason is that you can see the hood when you are in the driver seat (unlike my z28). When you floor it, you get a little bit of "squat" and you can see the hood come up. It gives the illusion of accelerating faster than you are. That is the only reason I could come up with for why it "felt" faster.

Simple, like others have said its lighter, has more power and is more aerodynamic

I never drove the newer style but there was a 98 6-speed for 15,000 with 80k miles. I was going to jump on it but it was sold this morning
