Dropped the car off at GM....

.....I know, first mistake, but it was under warentee so I wanted everything for free. The things they didn't/couldn't fix:

I posted here before about losing roughly 1 qt of oil afte rthe first 1000 miles I had the car. The mechanic said that's "extreme, but normal" saying something to my mother about the power of the car and how it consumes about that much. How true is that?

The friggin glove box is pissing me off! It is always slightly open, which I normally don't care about, but when its dark out the thing throws a beam of light on me and it's damn annoying. He said it's cuz the latch for it is all the way to the left, rather than in the middle. Anyone else have this trouble?

Also, I want to put a cat-back (dynamouth) on it, and I was wondering what that would do to the warentee?

The oil consumption is probably due to the crappy PCV system on this car. Or possibly bad factory rings.
But the catback will not void any warranty.

You say after the first 1000 miles, is that when the car was new or did you buy it used? How many miles does the car have on it now, do you use about a quart of oil every 1000 miles or was that just a one time deal?

Are you talking the 95.
Either that LT1 has super high miles
(which you wouldn't have a warranty)
or you have a leak somewhere.
Everyone considers the LS1's major flaw
to be buring 1/2-1 qt every 3000 so your
3-6X that rate and that isn't normal especially for
an LT1.
Might sound stupid but if you just got it
the dealer way have had the oil changed,
check the drain plug is threaded on correctly,
hope it isn't the intake manifold gasket.

When asking a tech question you need to post some vitals on the car that you're talking about.
Mine wasn't using much oil at all then all at once the low oil light came on. I changed the PCV valve and it hasn't done it again.

Al i'm a little embarassed to ask, but where the heck is the PCV valve? I realize it's on the passenger side Valve cover but I don't see it. I threw some NGK's in & figured I'd throw a new PCV valve in but didn't see it. Where the heck is that lil sucker? Atleast it doesn't burn any oil yet, Fred

theres a routing diagram under the hood showing where your PCV is if you still have it.my friend whos built numerous cars was confused at first where it was because hes used to conventional SBCs.its not to hard to find.

The car is the 01 LS1 with about 12K on the clock now (maybe a little less)

I'll try to check the PCV valve and replace it, seeif that helps. After I had the car, which I bought used (it had about 10K on it then) I drove it roughly 1000 miles and that's when the oil light came on.

Read the manual about the oil light.
They come on based on motor revs over time.
Most of us don't pay any attention and change by
mileage, especially us Mobil 1 guys.
So the light may not have been reset at the same
time as the change-mine never is.
The thousand miles you put on it may not even
be a factor-who now how long its been since it
was reset. Just watch now much oil you burn.
Did you check the level when you bought it?

I use at most 1/2 qt per 3000 and I really don't
worry about topping it off. Just know that the
more you drive around maintaining a high RPM the
more oil you're going to burn. Mine rarely sees 3000
which is why I dont have that much of a problem.

Wrong oil light dude. That's the engine oil change frequency light.
He's talking about the engine oil low level light.

My glove box did the same thing. If GM won't get off their lazy *** and do this, then do it yourself.

Remove the latch on the dash side (not the actual door) and bend it a little. Put it back on ... problem solved. Now your door closes all the way.
