Do M6 LS1's really burn oil like I've been hearing?

Semper Fi back at ya Iron City Man....!
Idiot light or not I think it's pretty sad when you rely on a light to tell you when your oil is low. In my line of work, when you don't take the time to do the math and rely on technology to do it for you, more times then not it gets your people killed.
Oil is the life of your engine. My idiot oil light doesn't come on and I am easily a quart to a quart and a half down at 2.5k-3K when I change it. Continue to be lazy and I will pray that it doesn't bite you in the ***.

Blame a shoddy PCV system that ends up dumping oil into the intake as well as light tension rings that allow oil in the combustion chamber. Both can be fixed, but the oil condition is more of a nuisance than a problem.

My 98Z M6 has 79K+ miles on it and I never had a problem with burning oil. And just like the rest of us, my lead foot goes to the floor board often. Now the 99SS M6 (60K miles) requires about a quart between changes. Luck of the draw I quess.

Chevy High Performance magazine just had a reader's letter about thisin the Nov issue. Pages 129-130.
GM did redesign the 2nd and oil rings , and it did mention the PCV, but the problem is compounded by using synthetic oil. GM has recommended using REGULAR oil in the LS1.
That said, I run nothing but dino-oil and have not had any oil consumption problems.
