Do I really need a ported, polished, balanced, blueprinted blah blah blah oil pump you find everywhere for around $150? Would I be just as well off switching to an LS6 oil pump you can get for 60 bucks from GM parts Direct?

Get a ported LS6 pump from TSP, they are about $120, no problems with mine.

I would, just because $150 is a whole lot less than a motor rebuild. If you're in there, put in new parts.

Oh I fully intend on using new parts, its just that I can get a brand new stock LS6 oil pump for around 60 bucks from GM parts direct. Is it really worth the extra 90 bucks for a ported one?

Most likely not. The LS6 pump should be fine. I got my Katech pump for about $119.

The ported pump is overkill. The stock pumps supply plenty of pressure and volume for any streetable engine. They are like gold plated valve covers....they are nice to have but hardly a necessity.

or you could go to TSP (texas speed) and get a ported ls6 pump and rollmaster double timing chain for 205.

I had understood that the main purpose of the work done on an LS1/6 pump was the honing and polishing of the pressure relief valve bore. To keep it from sticking open and trashing your engine as many have done.

I bought one from Thunder Racing for my build up.

Yeah, but wasnt that problem was a lot more common in 98 and earlier 99 model cars? What about an LS6 pump? That engine didnt even make its debut until late 2000, long after the last of the "bad" pumps had left the line. How many people who own LS6 powered cars have had this problem?
