Do I have a Miss?

I have recenlty noticed that as I am at idle in gear it seems that the car will idle fine then act like it's gonna die. It has never died but it's like it is just going to start bogging or something. It is not as bad in park and I noticed it isn't as bad with the A\C on either. It is real bad when I am in gear and the lights are on. Do I have a miss or is it something else electrical maybe?

First thing I would do is perform the "idle relearn" procedure. I posted instructions a while back. I'll see if I can dig them out again.

With the A4 tranny, it's very important to do every step.

Edit: Finally found where I had archived it:

============================

PCM Idle Learn Procedure:

===============

Anytime the PCM or the battery is disconnected, the PCM loses power or the PCM is reprogrammed, the PCM?s learned idle position is lost.

Perform the following procedure to return the learned idle to the correct position:

Automatic Transmission:

1 Turn off the ignition

2 Restore the PCM battery feed

3 Turn Off the AC controls

4 Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels

5 Start the engine

6 Allow the engine coolant temperature to reach 176 degrees F

7 Shift the transmission selector into the drive range

8 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes

9 Turn on the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)

10 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)

11 Shift the transmission selector into Park

12 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)

13 Turn off the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)

14 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes

15 Turn off the engine for 15 seconds

Manual Transmission:

1 Turn Off the ignition

2 Restore the PCM battery feed

3 Turn Off the AC controls

4 Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels

5 Transmission in neutral

6 Start the engine

7 Allow the engine coolant temperature to reach 176 degrees F

8 Turn on the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)

9 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)

10 Turn off the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)

11 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes

12 Turn off the engine for 15 seconds

There is also a way to reset the idle, to factory settings

Shoebox sent me the directions

1) slightly depress the accelerator and start the car, release accelerator
2) after the tach falls let it runs for 5 secs and turn it off
3) wait 10 seconds and restart the car
4) car should resume normal idleing

if this doesnt work you will definatly need to perform the idle relearn procedure.
