Need some info on A4?

I am kinda confused about what rpm my A4 is supposed to shift. Last night i was messing around with a GT and my car hit the rev limiter in second gear, all it did was hit it and then it shifted to third. Is this normal? Then today i was paying attention to my shift points and in first gear it shifts at about 5700 rpm. So i was talking to my friend who used to own a 98 A4 and he said his always shifted at 6200 rpm in every gear. Now the only thing i can think of what is causing mine to shift different is i am running 285/40/17 tires in back which are larger then stock. Can this be why? Or maybe my tranny fluid is low? And i am talking about when i hit it in Drive. Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance.

Look in your operators manual...i believe it tells you shift points for an automatic as well as a manual transmission.

It's been a couple months since I've driven my TA, but 5700 sound about right.

Yep, 5,700 sounds about right, 6,200 seems high, was your friends car modded?

Stock tachometers are known to be off by as much as 300rpm, so it is kind of hard to pinpoint your shift points.

Your car should defiantly not be bouncing off the rev limiter though.

Check your fluid. It’s probably fine but check it anyway.

Your tire size should not affect your shift points at all.

Mine used to shift at 6000 in first and 6200 in second gear, according to the tach.

Question

My car never shifts at 5,700 RPM. Are you all talking about WOT off the line?

If I drive normally, my car shifts at around 2,000 RPM.

They are talking WOT. Not normal driving.

Mine usually shifts into 2nd gear at 5700/5800 RPM, but I can't remember at what RPM it shifts into 3rd? Probably around ~5800 RPM as well? Also, the rev limiter is set at 6200 RPM, so your car must not be shifting into 2nd until then, and that's why it hit the rev limiter.............although it shouldn't if it's all stock?! Are you sure that the shift points haven't been re-programmed, but the rev limiter wasn't? Otherwise maybe there is a problem with your tranny and it's not shifting on time??
