Question Do all years of the LS1 have piston slap?

Or did they ever fix the problem?
And do all of them have it?

Has anybody taken one to the dealer and complained? What did they say?

what the fu*k is piston slap? wouldn't that create a fire hazard with all that friction?

I think it is an overbore in cylinder 1 which makes it slap until teh piston heats up and expands.

Yup. My friend has a 2000 SS. I'm waiting for the day he'll come to school and say, "Hey, my Camaro is making some ticking sound when it's cold, do you know anything about that?"

Oh yeah: "Moving to LS1 Tech......."

Unhappy Yep, they all knock.....still....

....which pi$$es me off --- especially considering the amount of $$$ I'm spending just to have a "new" car, which isn't supposed to have any "problems" (like knocking/ticking engines ), and yet, what do I have?? Yup, piston slap, and lifter noise (I think?) that makes it sound like a real Ricer (tick, tick, tick, tick, ......... ).

I've heard though, that unless the dealer deems it "excessive", that it is considered "normal", and there's not much that can be done.........sorry to say.

Yup, they all do it. Some worse than others, and yes it's usually on the #1 cylendar. If it's bad enough it almost sounds like diesel clatter.

Yep, the 02s all seem to have em.....I never had a problem with the 98 Z or the 00 z. I'm not worried, its still a chevy motor.

Cool

I don't have it. Sometimes I'll hear it for a few seconds after starting a cold engine, but that's it.

A simple hone shouldn't take enough material off of the walls to make the least bit of difference in bore. All a hone really does is scuff the walls up some for the rings to seat a little better/more quickly.

My 98 Z had it real bad with 39k miles on it and i took it to the dealer and they gave me a NEW ENGINE and TRANSMISSION!!!!!!!!!! I was really happy, the new one doesnt do it at all and it seems to be a hell of alot faster. the reason why i got a new tranny is because the guy said that the syncros were worn out because somebody had been power shifting!!! NOT ME,previous owner! im happy with it!Plus i got a extended warranty until 75k miles!

I'd like to do that at about ~79,500kms just before my warranty runs out!!! (I wonder if they'd let me keep the original stuff as good cores to build a stroker and a back-up tranny though?! ...........................somehow I doubt it ).
