Question Do all ls1's have skip shift???

I am getting a 98, 99, or 2000 z28 6 speed and I have heard of that skip shift thing. Do they all have that? How much is that eliminator???

My 98 had it. You can find the part to remove the skip shift (CAGS - computer aided gear shifting) all over the place for $20-30. Try thunderracing.com, ls1motorsports.com, slponline.com, lmperformance.com, and tbyrne.com.

for 10 cents, go to Radioshack and buy a resistor. You just insert it in the plug on the tranny. Thats exactly what those $30 "Skip-Shift Eliminator" things do. Why spend that money? Just spend a dime. It takes all of 5 minutes.

i think all m6 camaros since 94 have had it for better gas mileage. my friend had a 95 z and it had it and i think he said they had it since 94 cause the government didn't like the gas it used in 93 with the new lt1 so they did the skip shift thing to cut down their general emmisions
don't know if that is true, thats just what i remember him saying like 6 months ago

and the resistor is the same thing as the eliminator, but a hell of a lot cheaper. al you have to do is find out what type of resistor, sorry i can't remember off hand, just do a search, and then just tape it up there with some electrical tape.
check out http://www.installuniversity.com/ i believe they have it on there

All M6 F-bodies since '94 have had skip shift. There are a number of ways to eliminate it, though it doesn't bother me.

Yes it works the same as the $30 one, and it does not trip the SES light. Do a search for the 10 cent one on this site, thats how I did it.

The 10 cent option will work but then you end up using black tape and all that to seal things off. Personally, even though it probably would never matter... I would rather get the parts that look more professional. What is 30 bucks for something that you know will work well, and gets rid of CAGS? (plus it made an easy gift for someone who wanted to spend about 25 bucks for my Xmas gift.. lol)

I say try driving with it and forget all the bitching that goes on about it.. see if it really does bother you.. I know I am different.. It has no effect on me whatsoever.. I dont get upset or angry cause, like a good human, I adapt and learn that when going slow, it goes into 4th.. Hell, I used to shift from 1st to 3rd to 5th in my other cars so this is no biggie.. I even think its neat to feel how it nudges your hand over so slightly.. but then again that was when I just got the car and now I dont even notice it at all..
Also, the way I sit, I dont see the skip shift light go on and off.. Not that I am that far back, its just that I have the steering wheel there.. To me, I hate for a feature to be disabled when it does me some good.. Better gas mileage? Hell yeah... saves me more $$ for racing and dyno days and mods!

So, dont worry so much about the little things.. especially if you are looking for a used car.. focus on the major things.. try to find a car that hasnt been modded.. Look for signs of bolts and nuts coming on and off alot.. things of that nature and then of course the general car..

Good luck!

I'm with psychocabbage the skip shift isn't a big deal worse come to worse if you really hate going from 1st to 4th leave your foot on the gas a little longer and the light goes away. CAGS! is like eating your vegetables its good for you even if you don't like it. Saves you $$$ even if its a small amount.
