Do All 4th Gens come with...

Limited slip differentials? I have seen some people purchasing Aftermarket differentials for their F-bodies and was curios was this because some F-bodies don't have Posi, or are they just getting a better aftermarket product?

Thanks,

Lightbulb See "Mechanical" - about 1/2 way down.

All Z28 & SS models came w/ a Torsen-Zexel rear end - Auburn is an option on the SS's.

I'd assume that people are upgrading rear ends, although I know of no particular weakness w/ the Torsen unit.

Hope this helps !

I thought the Torsen-Zexel rear end started in '00 or '99. Good old GM posi before that. SS could get Auburn since the start. ('96)

With the stock oem T2 Torsen, if one wheel completely loses traction, like beign lifted in the air or aggressively going around some roadcourses, it'll act like an open diff. Obviously this doesn't happen much in street driving..

The T2R fixes that, and is more aggressive in transfing tq.. I love how it feels! Its like gaining 25 hp around and coming out of turns..

'93-'98 V8 cars have an Auburn cluth style posi, except for '96-'98 SLP built cars that opted for the optional HD Torsen.

'99-'02 cars have a Torsen T2 posi, except for SLP built cars that opted for the HD Auburn.

Ken is correct, the T2R rocks! I got it because it puts power down better coming off of a corner, which is something I like to do a lot.

Except that they suck for drag racing. Way to much one wheel peel. I see many many many 99 and up F-bodys doing one wheel burnouts in the waterbox at the track. Followed by a crappy 60' because only one tire got warm and the other one is still wet.
That's why I went to an Eaton HD clutch type posi.

Here's info on the T2R. http://www.torsen.com/products/T-2R.htm
Sam Strano sells (and uses!) them.. they are a bit pricey (around $500 or so).. IMO, it was well worth the extra money..

If you like Auburn, check this out
http://www.auburngear.com/aftermarket/products/racers/

I heard Jeg sells them and doesn't check credentials..
