Disappointed

I just put my new cam in (tr 224/224 114). I raced a buddy of mines ss last week before the cam install and we stayed even, then yesterday i run into him again and we race and we stayed even again. I don't understand, i should i have walked away from him. Is it all in the tune or something?? Also he has to be bsing me cuz he told me that all he had was a lid and a catback. Help me out here!!

Re: Disappointed

I'm guessing you might need a good set of heads, rockers, ect to go with the combo?

Re: Disappointed

no i'm going get it dyno tuned wed at thunder racing.
Do ya'll think this will wake the car up?? It runs awesome , it pulls way harder up top, but i don't know maybe i shifted to early when i raced him cuz i shifted at about 5500 and the cam pulls till 6600 supposedly, i dont know?? i think i still should have pulled on him

Re: Disappointed

i'm assuming you swapped springs? other wise you may be getting some valve float or soemthing.

but more than likely it is just the tune.

I need to get some of those! I love titz. Anyways, few things: A tune will do WONDERS for your car. If I could clone my car, 1 pre tune, and 1 post tune, the post tune car would RAPE the non tuned one. World of difference in driveability and power. The other thing.. shifting at 5500?! WTF!? You have another 1,000 RPM of good power. Well, maybe not until your rev limiter is raised but still, spin it higher. You might want to take it easy until you get it tuned, you A/F ratio is way off, and in that short period of time I doubt you will damage anything, but to me it wouldnt be worth the risk.

Re: Disappointed

Yeah i'd really get a tune if i were you, basically the engine thinks it still has the stock cam, so it won't take advantage of it. I'd guess you could gain a good 30+hp with a tune alone.

Re: Disappointed

not only gaining hp via a tune just shift after your peak hp instead of 500-700 rpms before it will help you out.
