Disapointed With Track Times

Well I just got back from the New England Dragway in Epping New Hampshire and I am not happy with my times. I have a 2002 SS M6, All I did to it was 1.75 drop and flowmaster muffler not cat-back just the muffler. I ran a 14.0 @ 102. I am thinking I should trapping higher and running more towards a 13.5. What do you guys think..

Re: Disapointed With Track Times

Well, I can't tell you my short times because they were not handing out slips because the machine was not working, What I can tell you is I spun through 1st and 2nd, so my 60' and 1/8 mile probably suck, I did have 3/4 of a tank of gas and I just checked this morning and my tires had about 38lbs in them. I am shifting just at redline through each gear and I'm shifting hard. It was very humid and sticky last night so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Re: Disapointed With Track Times

The track was way off if you spun through first and second, and hot and humid weather won't yield good results either. With a stickier track, maybe stickier tires, more practice driving your LS1 down the track, and cooler air low to mid 13s should be in sight.

Did you warm up the tires at all? Even street tires should grip pretty well if you stage them right.

You need some practice drag racing and the times will come down.

In drag racing, it's all about traction. My 1st few bone stock runs yielded dissappointing 14.0x@101-102 on 2.3x 60's. By the 5th run, I had gotten the ETs down to 13.832@102.5 on 2.2x 60's. Pratice and patience (which I didn't have) should get you to mid-13s if not better in your current state with a 2.0 or better 60'.

Also, lowering your car hurts your 60' (more wheel hop). It throws off the rear-axle geometry. Look into getting some LCA relocation brackets.
