Question Dielectric Grease for T-tops

I've heard that dielectric grease will cure leaky t-tops. If so, how does it work and where should I apply it to stop my leaks? Will this grease be very visible on my car once it has dried?

I just need to fix my t-tops real soon, the rainy season in FL is right around the corner.

It mainly gets on the glass of your Ts. After about 6 or 7 times taking them out and cleaning the glass it will be gone. I didn't notice any on the body. Good luck!

Well yes it could get on the glass, but thats not what he needs to know.
We use it in the military on ejection seats for certain things, but leaks was never one of them.

What I'm asking is that I know where my t-tops are leaking at, but will this dielectric grease stop the leaking permanently? The leak is coming from the rubber part where the top of the window meets the t-top.

I doubt the grease will stop your leak for long. If you take off the inner door panel you may be able to adjust the window tracks enough to stop it. If not spring for a new window rubber.

What about rubber cement?

That stuff should make a good, clear seal and prevent water from coming in without damaging the rubber, right?

This sounds really simple but it is a common problem and cure.

When you put the tops on, are you "shutting" them like a door? i.e., place the Top at the bar in the center and swing it shut like it is on a hinge in the center. That method is the proper way to put them in place. The leak area that you describe is most commonly caused by "sliding" the tops into place. If you slide the tops in they will leak there every time due to the water channel being pinched.

Try swinging them on and see if that cures your leak.

The dielectric grease is only to preserve the softness of the rubber, it is not to stop leaks.

I put my t-tops back in the correct way you described.

There's a leak and I know it's because the rubber where it's coming in at is deformed, and I know it's not from anything I did.

I just need to know if there's any glue/cement I can apply to the place where I know it's leaking so I can plug and seal this leak off.

You can try applying some black silcone rubber to build up the leaky area, let it harden then install T tops>Jake

I bought the dielectric grease to lubricate all of my weatherstripping. i used it for the t's and it did not help my leaks. when it rains extrmemely hard mine leak from where the t's meet the a/pillar. some people say the t's leak from being on the car more than off, this makes the weatherstripping go "flat"

i might order some new ones for mine, but they do not leak by the window part of the t-top

You need to replace your seals.
Then take car of the new seals with the die-electric.

Go to your local BMW dealer. BMW makes a real good weather-strip cream..if you will. It comes in a tube like toothpaste and looks like vaseline of neosporin. It costs about $10.00 and you apply it to the rubber. I use it and have had only good luck. It keeps the waetherstip very soft and plyable.

How often is it recommended to
put the Di.Grease on?
I do about twice a year.
How long do you leave on it before
removing?
Does sunlight matter?
