98's and early 99's had the problem. If you have an 01 I would just leave the stock pump alone. You might want to replace the timing chain though. Check texas speed and performance, they have rollmasters for cheap.

98's and early 99's had a problem where I think a valve in the pump would collapse and you would lose almost all oil pressure, and it was something that would happen suddenly. By now, I think if its still working you should be ok, but if you're tearing it apart to do a cam swap its cheap insurance to put a new pump in. Same goes for 00, but I haven't heard of one failing. It's really not worth the trouble to tear it apart to change the pump if you arent doing a cam at the same time. Just an FYI a stock LS6 pump is only about $70 through Dal.

Some 00's do, the pressure relief valve gets stuck open, something about a nick or burr when they machined the valve bore. Most failed early on, but it can happen anytime. The first symptom is oil pressure jumping around alot, especially at idle. Mine would idle at 40 psi then drop to 20 the day before it failed. Started it the next morning and 0 pressue and the check gages light was on. That was at 1700 miles on it. Towed it to the dealer and guess what? Had oil pressure again. It came unstuck during the ride to service it. Drove it for another week before it happened again. This time the dealer replaced the pump. Been ok for 4 years now.

I have heard of a few 01's that had a problem as well, they were supposed to be fixed for 01 but I guess a few bad ones slipped through.
