i think the tips are quite a large contributor to the sound of the exhaust....a thing that comes to mind is...if you've ever had a leftover cardboard tube, from like wrapping paper during the holidays. if you make a noise through that and listen to it....then cut the length of it in half...the end noise would sound different i'm pretty sure. the tips are like the tuners of your exhaust...and how they are shaped, i believe, constitute a lot in determining the sound of your exhaust.

now...as far as each factor of design in the exhaust tip, and how much each individual one affects the sound....i haven't a clue.

if anyone thinks i'm talking out my a$$...just lemme know...

100% agree. When I got my truck it had a dual outlet flow on it with no tips. I had some 3.5" x 18" tips installed on it and it made a huge difference in how it sounded. Like you said though I dont know how each factor affects sound.

Well im curious because i have the SLP Loudmouth with the 3.5'' Tips that are straight cut...

I was thinking of changing the tips in favor of being different and was lookin at various shapes and sizes and was wondering how much it will change the exhaust note of my car.

Round vs square
Short vs long
2'' vs 3'' vs 4''

etc...etc...

Longer w/larger diameter will be louder. Think of it as a megaphone.

Smaller diameter, shorter, or resonated tips will be more mellow.

My'n are starting to look kinda crappy, and i was wondering what would happen if i just cut the tips off?? would it actually make a noticeable difference in the sound?? Has anyone ever heard it with the stock tips cut off?? I wont do it, if it sounds like crap...

I wonder what the difference would be between the GMMG and Mecham oval tips on the GMMG exhaust? I currently have the GMMG slash cut tips on my GMMG exhaust, so would the GMMG oval tips make it sound different?

yeah, I bet your car will sound much better without the tips. I got these tips for my v6 and they are 2 1/4 id so I thought they were going to sound great, funny thing was that I had no tips on my car the week before I got them and it sounded awesome, now I've got these tips on there and it sounds like crap but the tips look great.

If the quality of the mecham tips is anything like the quality of thier hoods, then i would pass on the tips. I've heard horror stories about mecham hoods on the internet and actually had the oportunity to see one yesterday and everything I've ever read was right. The design is very nice, but the quality is horrible. Just pray that the tips are of a better build quality.

yeah...i've heard a couple times that the mecham hoods aren't anything to praise...which is sad, cuz if i ever got an aftermarket hood, it would have probably been one of theirs. although...in the end, i doubt i could convince myself to spend that much money on my car for a new hood....
