Dont waste your time going to court, just write a letter like this:

Dear Judge
I was pulled over by Officer------- for my window tint and license plate. My car did not come with a front plate holder and I currently have a front plate holder on order with the dealer.
As far as my window tint, Officer ------- did not use nor have access to a light meter that would have shown that my window tint was in fact within the legal limits of the State of -----------. Had he used a light meter, he would have seen that this was an unwarranted citation.
I hope you can reduce these violations to a warning and I will place my plate on the front of my vehicle as soon as I receive the mounting bracket from the dealer.

Try that. As a point, dont write in your letter how much of a ******** this cop was or what an A-hole he was being or anything like that. Just keep things polite
I think I will save this letter for a later date that may or may not come

at the very least talk to a lawyer. your probably screwed on the lp issue. its supposed to be on the front of your car. i know that. you know that. the judge knows that. unless you can prove that you "currently" have one on order your sol . the window tint.... if your tint is within the legal limit for your state fight it. go get it tested and fight it. all you need is written proof from someone qualified to test it say its legal and you should be good.

if you put in the order for the proper front end for your car now you may actually be able to win that as well. depending on the judge, he/she may let you off. if you prove you are trying to fix the situation you may get let off. by the same token you may get racked over anyway .

the tint is winable if your car is legal. the lp is iffy and you'll probably loose regardless . either way you need to fix the lp issue and verify that your tint is legal. so getting the proof required is in your best intrest and may get you out of a fine.

good luck bud.

Be angry at the law, not at the cop. The Illinois law requires you to have a front license plate and does not allow any tint on the forward side windows. The cop was merely doing his job, enforcing the law (hence the term law enforcement officer). If you really have a beef, start writing your congressmen. Ironic Tuesday was voting day.

You broke the law, now own up to the prescribed consequences.

Or you could always get a job with the Fire Department or Police Department ... even as a non-officer .... and have a license to speed and whatever else you want to do. (within reason, of course)

Case in point ... ME ... I work for the Fire Department as a video/photo/graphics guy here at the training center. (I make the training materials and go to fire scenes for documentation)

The other day, I was driving along with my mind on a dozen other things. I was cruising along this 2 lane road and about the time I saw the black sedan sitting among the trees, I also realized I was doing about 60 MPH. TAG ! Laser detector goes off ...

Officer friendly walks into the street and waves me over. Of course, I was already slowing down because I knew I had just been caught.

So here I am, driving a black sports car with about 10% tint all around, and just got zapped doing 60 in a 35. Fortunately, I was wearing my fire department uniform (t-shirt and BDU pants) So I pull over in front of his car, turn off the radio, roll down the window, turn off the car, and place my hands on the steering wheel. (no ... never been here before )

Officer Friendly walks up, glances down at my shirt, looks at me and says "I just wanted to say that you have a nice car. Oh, and try to slow down. Have a nice day, sir." And he turned around and walked off.

According to an officer I know, any tint is illegal in Illinois. There is no legal limit. I haven't seen this written anywhere but this is what I was told.

This was later proven to a friend of mine who got stopped in his 99 Grand Prix with factory tinted windows.

Any tint, factory or custom, is illegal. Again, I haven't actually seen this written anywhere but this is what I have been told by different people.

Take it for what it is worth.

Are you serious?! That's f'n IMO! Up here in Ontario, we're allowed 35% tint on the side windows legally, but a lot of guys still put 20% and even 5% --- although they do run the risk of getting caught with that. On the back window, anything goes --- you can have limo/privacy tint if you want.

If that's the case though, that's truly that factory tint is illegal?!...................really, what's the point of that law??

The LAW!

I had a business law class at COD last year and we were doing research on how to find stuff in the law books. A suggestion was to look up tinting and radar detectors. It IS legal to have a radar detector so It cannot be confiscated unless its under investigation as being stolen or has something to do with a crime. The legal limit for tint on driver windows in Illinois is nothing. You cannot have any tints on driver parralell windows. Sorry everyone it sucks.

I don't have an answer for the tint, but depending on if you got the ticket in a small town or in the city ,makes a difference. Here's what happened to me.I got pulled over for a blown out front head light (really did'nt know it was burned out, street lights), no front plate, loud exhaust(headers and cat back), no seat belt.I went to the auto parts store bought a license plate bracket, head light, and a 3.00 exhaust adapter and 2 clamps. It cost me 30.00 for the parts ,the only thing that got used was the head light.took the receipt to court, showed it to the judge, explained my car didn't come with a front plate ,but the repair has been made, front headlight was replaced, and my exhaust had a leak ,but has been repaired. I got stuck with the seat belt ticket ,and that's it.This was cleveland city court at the justice center.City courts process alot of tickets every day ,they care more about your car being repaired than the ticket most of the time.Smaller town courts are usually not willing to let you off, they depend on the money from tickets.
hope this helps

I am one of those people that is too lasy to read all the previous posts so if this was said alread, im sorry. Usually the cop doesn't show up to court so if you go to court and hes not there just deny it. Also, fix it tickets are cheap. (I'v been pulled over twice in the past month) People with radar/laser jammers don't forget it does no good if the cop is right behind you, lol, check your mirors.

Hey, you know that both items are illegal and you got caught. Stop crying, pay the fine and be thankful they weren't movers with points being put on you're record.

Put the front plate on and take the tint off or risk getting the same tickects again.

FYI, if you don't take the tint off, find a car just like yours WITHOUT tint and take pics to show the judge you removed it. It worked for me about 15 yrs. ago in Oak Lawn Il.
