Cutout and flowmaster

I have a flowmaster muffler with all stock exhaust and 4" wide 22" lond welded tips. If I install a cutout right before the muffler would it sound any louder at idle or overall?

dude, you're bypassing the muffler...it will sound ALOT louder at all speeds.

idle will sound about like 3000 rpms and wide open sounds just plain sick

yeah remember the point of a muffler is to "muffle" the noise of the engine exhaust.

imagine what would happen if you removed that....

Re: Cutout and flowmaster

Just dont point it at the right rear seat area. My car had that when I bought it, and after a while you will start smelling something like paint burning, thats bad. I had it covered right away, and I felt a mild increase in torque. Now I'm thinking of removing it all together as I think the way it was installed did more harm than good. I had to replace a shock that had exploded due to the heat coming out of that thing. ALL Im saying is make sure that you point that thing down as to not screw something up. I repainted the bottom of the seat well because under all that carbon was a little surface rust. little cleanup and paint and it looks good as new. I'm just glad it hadn't become so bad as to start pitting. yuck

Just out of curiosity, how was that diagnosed to be caused by the cutout?

Re: Cutout and flowmaster

I have my cutout located in the 'pocket' just below where the rear passenger seat is at... it tucks against the body very nicely in that spot. I've never smelled burning paint before nor have I had any problems with excess heat.

I love it... I'd recommend the mod to anyone. The Flowmaster seems extremely quiet now when I have it capped.

First was all the carbon buildup on the shock. Second was the warped plastic sleeve that wasn't warped on the left rear shock. Then just knowing what heat will to a shock. Stuff that I havn't seen since I covered the thing up.
