Angry Crap, I'm going crazy

Hi, I'm new to the board. I'm driving a V6 Camry right now. In november my dad and i are looking into trading the car. I was thinking about getting a celica GTS or a RSX type S. Due to the high compression ratios I am now rethinking about what car I really want. I am thinking about camaros now but I've always thought camaros weren't the most reliable cars out there. One question, If you supercharge a Z28 with flowmasters at 7 psi, how long will the engine last? How much did u camaro owners have to maintain your cars? I'd appreciate to hear some of your replies, and it'd help me out alot. Thx.

Hey Jas
I can't really answer your question because I've only had my Camaro for about a month, and I don't have a supercharger. But if you're interested in supercharging, speed is probably pretty important to you in deciding on your next automobile. All I can say is, of the 3 vehicles you mentioned, if you're considering a Z28, do yourself a favor and get the Z28. Don't know what year you're looking at but the '02 models offer 310 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque, all of which is available to tap into at any speed, in any gear, making for an awesome "power band". I don't know the exact numbers on the other cars you mentioned, but I guarantee they are not even close.
If all else fails, test drive the vehicles in question, and I'm certain you will end up with the Z.
Good luck in making a decision.

SS_Thunder is right. Those foreign cars may have power, but they in no way compare to the Z28. I dont have a supercharger, so i dont know how long a LS1 would last under that kind of stress, but if you think about it a new one has 310 STOCK. Camaros are very receptive to small mods too. A bolt on supercharger from procharger is said to put on 490 some horsepower. Do that with your other selections. Good luck.

My 99 also dyno'd 308rwhp, so they are rated at 310 and probably produce somewhere around 350 flywheel hp. My LS1 ran 13.25 stock with some spinning. For speed you really can't go wrong. The 6 speed also does great for incredible gas milage (I get about 25-28mpg on highway in 6th).. Your not really losing out on much gas milage.. and getting better than some smaller engined sports cars. Reliability speaks for itself... Just look at every post in this forum, how many of them are blown motors or something like that? Very very few

Cool

Don't believe the hype My '98 dyno'd at around 340 flywheel HP bone stock with 36k miles on it.With that kind of power you don't really need a supercharger. You can run 12's with bolt-ons in a LS1 powered Z.If you just have to have a super however,be aware that because of higher compression, the LS1 isn't the best engine to supercharge. It should last just fine as long as you don't go crazy with the boost.Check out the forced induction board for more info.I really don't know a lot about superchargers.Good luck.

LS1s don't want more than 6 lbs of boost if you want it to last. Most good SC kits run around 4-5lbs of boost. With a blow-off valve you have an engine that will last 100k+. Now stop driving Rice and buy a real Mans car.
