Crank Shaft Sensor

I have a 2002 z28 so as you all know it has the LS1. The Crank shaft position sensor has gone bad in my car. Has any one ever changed one of these here. Also would you recomend just taking it some where? Or is it a simple job?

PS its a 6 speed if that matters in this case.

Re: Crank Shaft Sensor

CKP sensor itself is easy to replace - but you need to remove the starter to get to it, then a CKP variation learn procedure has to be done with a scan tool.

Re: Crank Shaft Sensor

Basically it calibrates the new sensor to the car. I should've said Tech II instead of scan tool. I think some programers...like HP Tuners and others might do it, but not sure. If you have to bring it to the dealer for the realearn they'll probably charge you for a diagnostic fee and the relearn anyway - so might be easier (but more expensive) to have them replace it for you.

Re: Crank Shaft Sensor

After you install it, just drive it. I did that a couple of weeks ago. Mine works fine. If not just reset your computer by pulling the ign fuse and the fuel pump fuse and turning the car on but not starting it. Let it set for 5 or so minutes, turn key off and replace fuses. It will relearn then.

Re: Crank Shaft Sensor

Never replaced one myself - just read the procedures out of my Helms. If you try it yourself and need to reset the PCM:

Turn key on, don't start car
Pull PCM BATT and PCM IGN fuses in engine compartment
Wait 5-10 min
Turn ignition off
Replace fuses
