Crank sensor/ring?

So the ls1 and some ls2 motors have different reluctor rings for the crank sensor right?

So what do you do if they are different and you are swapping motors? do you have to pull the ring of you old crank and swap'em? or is there and easier way?

Also what years did they make the changes in the ring? If i were to put a ls2 in a 98 car what are my options for years that are the same as far as the ring goes?

There are several different ways to get around this. You can swap over the reluctor ring, but that is extremely costly, and it requires one of the very few who have the tools and knowledge to do so. You probably will not find any GM dealer capable of this. You could run a different/modified PCM and modified wiring harness with a custom tune, or...

GM has a module and harness in the works to allow the use of the newer 58 tooth reluctor with the older 24 tooth PCM. Plug and play. GMPP says it will be released early-mid summer.

The 58x reluctor was introduced in very late 2005, so there are LS2s out there with the 24x crank. Easy way to tell? The 24x has a black crank sensor, and the 58x has a gray sensor.
