cost of big cube ls1
cost of big cube ls1
I know a decent amount about the ls1 engine but what i don't know is how much things cost to get done. My question is this: How much would it cost for someone to build a big cube ls1? IE 434 or even 454. This is providing I already have the ls1 block, crank, rods, pistons. This is just for the bottem end only. and all related accesories. Just wanting to know what re-sleeving and decking the block and boring would all cost after everything is said and done. Thanks for the time guys.

Re: cost of big cube ls1
Yeah, you'll need an iron block if you want to bore it out to those kinds of cubes and have some strength. I think 427 is about as big as you can go with a sleeved aluminum block. Check out AP Engineering for motor packages.

Re: cost of big cube ls1
We use a Darton wet-sleeve block for our 427 package. We can go higher than 427 you desire.
However, if you are looking to make pure power, it doesn't always cost that much. Check out the latest issue of Chevy High Performance, page 122.
Our 408 (using an iron 6.0 block) in that article made nearly 600 horsepower at the crank, and it is still very streetable. Our customer whose engine was used in the article drives his car every day in Florida. In fact, he just drove it up from Florida to our shop in Detroit for some additional tweaks and a dyno tune. Not only did he make the drive easily, he also still got about 300 miles to a tank!

Re: cost of big cube ls1
I know there are 409 ci lt1 iron blocks out there but my main interest lies in an ls1. I know i have seen bigger than a 427. but i still would like to know what the cost would be... just labor.. to put together the bottem end of a 427+ ci ls1. I ask this because i am capable of putting the rest of the engine together my self. Thanks for all the advice though guys and the other options. PS it is 125F in iraq right now
