Question Coolant Level Light

Coolant level light came on. Checked coolant full in radiator and overflow jug. Will stay on some times. Other times it will go out. Where is the sensor located, how much work involved to change? Anything else should check before replace. Car runs at normal temp.

If you could call the dealer and get the part number, you might be able to pick up the part @ http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ for about 2/3's the cost of what the parts dept. charges.

It's the square thing sticking out of the engine side of the radiator just under the upper radiator hose. Unplug the wire then pull the spring wire clip and pull it out. It will run you ~$40 and only last for a short time. Try taking it out and cleaning it off real good with alcohol. It will sometimes work for a while after doing that.
They work so good that in the later models it was deleted.

Thumbs up Shoeboxe's site will show you the way !!

Pretty common '98 & '99 problem.

As stated by AL SS590 M6 , this neat feature was eliminated in the '00 & up cars.

(Ironically, my wife's '02 L300 Saturn has one ... )

At any rate, see:

http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/4th_gen_tech1.html

Click on "Remove Low Coolant Sensor" & Wa Laa !!

I'll get to mine one of these days - it does not do it when the temp outside is over ~ 70. When it does do it, I run the car to 1/4 on the temp gauge, shut it off, and restart it - that kills the light.

Later !

This is exactly what I had to do when this happened to mine and its been okay since. Just take it off and clean it up with some soap and water and put it back in. If that doesnt work, then replace it.
