Converter,Gears, or Headers

Which mod would benefit me the most in a 1/4 mile. My car has 2.73s i was thinking 3.73s and a vigalante 2800 (daily driver) and some pacesetters. But what mod should be done before the other two ? Due to my limited budget i can only do so much at a time. The other question is : How much can i really gain with long tubes if i have an 01 and the manifolds flow better then 98-00 ?

The stall will give you the biggest ET gain at the strip. It will also be the most noticable on the old SOTP meter!

Re: Converter,Gears, or Headers

either mod will be ideal as a next step.

i would keep an eye on the GP forum and see which you can get first for a good price.

the LTs will gain about 15hp to the wheels over you current setup. are you going to have to run cats in NY?

Teke184 : I will not have to run cats because we know some1 who does inspection.
Im thinking about pacesetters . My friend just installed them on his 98 t/a good fitment. The only thing i would do is buy a different y-pipe !

Texas-speed is running a special on pacesetters w/ a 3" catted y pipe for $700(just incase your friend leaves).I went from 3.23 to 3.73, WOW.If you go w/ gears just remember you will need to change that in the computer, not sure about the stall, just a thought.

Unfortunately, gears alone don't make the difference you'd expect.....I've learned this the hard way. Not to say they don't work good, 'cause they do (check times in my sig) but on a bad night, I'm still only running ~13.5 even with 4.10's.

For 1/4 mile improvement, I think that a stall will probably be the 1 single most noticable change. Just make sure to invest in some stickier than street tires.

I did my whole transmission 1st.. I got a TCI Super Street Fighter Stall for 479$. ITs a 3500 stall and what a difference it made. Feels like a totally different car. I also did a transgo shifkit, and trans cooler. Definetly the best money I have spent so far. Next on my list is Longtubes

Re: Converter,Gears, or Headers

You can still get a lock-up converter, even at ~3500 rpm stall. On the highway, there should be no difference at all. It's only in-town driving where you notice the stall.
