...flaws...

I know this dude that runs a Speed shop (www.ls1speed.com) and he can pull more power out of the lt1's than the ls1's. But I will tell you this as a person who's had it since the first day, I would tell you to get sub frame connectors. I have seen so many pals of mine with creaking t-tops..just because i swear the car bends over time.....but yeah..so far my horn keeps blowing out when I crank the stereo, only one other friend of mine has experienced this, who the hell knows why, and the only other thing its a real bitch to change the fog lights....the whole thing's....and it eats oil if you haul *** over 3500 rpm's for too long it slowly eats oil....which GM actually busted out this 600 page service manual to show me that its under normal use wear and tear and its not a design flaw. That's about the only problems i have had with my 2000 Camaro ss 6spd that has 50k miles on it. I about to put 7k on it in feb because of my yearly drive around the country. I am driving from Chicago to LA...anyway,

Later,
Chris

Well, I did it.. I suggest you do too!

I had a 1995 Z28.. Did heads and roller rockers.. 300 miles later, spun bearing.. woo hoo! Traded it in that week for a 2002 Z28.. Built in May... Not too bad.. I love it.. Dyno numbers in sig and on review page.. Way better than my LT1.. I went through 6 autos with my LT1 in 3 years.. I also had gone through the following in the same amount of time:
2 opti sparks (within 1 month of each other)
1 water pump (replaced with Mezzerie electric)
1 Auburn rear end gear (replaced with Strange)
2 head gaskets (every december would have to pull heads to replace headgaskets, finally saved to install heads the 3rd time)
6 trannys (1st one went out 2 weeks after I got the car, then the replacement went out 3-4K miles later, then its replacement went out within 2K miles, it was under warranty to another was installed, It lasted 13K miles (out of warranty) so another was installed.. it lasted like 8-10K miles but I was so disgusted with their work I had Macco do my last one.. and it was the best of the lot! :P Go Figure!)
1 Tail light failure/short
1 heater core failure
1 leak in AC

So now I have almost 13K miles since August (6months) and no real problems but a leaking rear pinion seal.. other than that.. its sweet.. I am happy and its worth every penny so far..

The ET I ran was in the dead of summer.. Trying to go soon while its chilly and dry so I can see if I can pull and low 13 on street tires then I am doing a shootout with my Drag radials.. BFG vs Nittoz.. I will post when that is done..

Well,

I went from a '97 3800 Series II (V6) to the LS1 I have now. I'm a little stressed because my car only has 18,000 miles on it and my A4 tranny had to be totally reconditioned because my clutches got scortched by a stuck value. I was very disapointed by this, and ever since they "fixed" my tranny. I get this intermitant grinding noise normally on take off and its driving me nuts right now. I'm taking it in today to see what the hell they can do to get it sorted out

did you read my post above? The 4L60E is the weakest part of the whole car IMO.. I hate that tranny.. I actually like autos.. Enough that had I not went through 6 of them I would of bought my 2002 with an AUTO.. Its better in the 1/4 and a no brainer to drive.. But since the previous tranny was crap and I know many more people know how to work on a T-56 I decided that it was my best bet.. So far it still feels like new.. But I dont rag out my car like I see so many punk kids doing these days.. I enjoy it, but also know how to drive..

Had no problems with my old 2000 Z28(only put 10,000 on it) except for the sqeaky AC belt that I once changed.

And my 2002(only has 2,150 miles) needed to have the parking brake mechanism re-sanded down at 900 miles. No idea why, but the dealership fixed it right up.

Other than that, both of my LS1's have been very reliable to me even though I didn't/don't put a lot of miles on them.

BTW, its just natural that you'll be performning a LOT more maintence repairs on older cars vs new cars(Camaro's or not).

Mike

Talking

Also, a 100% factory stock 6-speed LS1 can run as good as high 12's @ 109 IF the driver is excellent and the weather is perfect.

But for more real world-like scenario's, your average bone stock M6 w/a decent driver will pull mid 13's @ 106
