confused about engines
I dont know much about Camaro engines but lately I have been reading. New Camaros (98-02) have the LS1 engine in them. Corvettes (other than the Z06) also have LS1 engines (i think)I noticed that the Corvette has covers on it and the Camaro doesnt. I was wondering why? I was also wondering if there are any majour differences in the two? and I was also wondering if the LS6 engine out of a Z06 could be put in a new Camaro.
Thanks,

SayNoTo5.0,
Welcome to the board, lots of good people
here.
The LS1 engine went in the Vette in '97 and
the Camaro in '98. The biggest difference in
the Vette engine and the Camaro is the cam &
exhaust. I think the cam is even the same in
the later engines '01 & newer. The Z06 has
different cam & heads, so to convert would be
a head & cam swap, don't need the whole
motor. The covers for the Vette are only
cosmetic. They possibly will fit a Camaro,
not sure of fuel line routing.
Hope this helps.

Little more info (add to the above):
Corvette has a slightly different intake - most notably the electronically controlled throttle body, compared to our drive-by-wire TB.
The Vette gets the FRCs because it is the flagship. Got to look good. But the FRCs can be bought and placed by yourself on camaro LS1 as well (as I did).
There are a few other minor differences too - placement of the alternator, oil dipstick, etc...
