A comment and a question (got flowtech lt's today)

Well the comment is about the Flowtechs, my dad is a welder and he says the welds on these and the y-pipe totally suck. My question: is there supposed to be a dent in drivers side header, its not big but its there and I thought I remember reading on here that its supposed to be there. Also the y-pipe is pretty dented up on the drivers side.

i too have the flowtechs sitting in my living room.

comments:
the welds are not pretty but they will work, considering the price i'm happy. as for the Ypipe...it looks like ***...the welds have not even been wirebrushed off! i plan to sand it down and coat it with silver exhaust paiint. as for the dents in the Y, i beleive you are refering to the crimps for clearance with the frame, stock pipes are flat and 2.5" dia, these are a full 3"...they have to make room somehow.

i also have the dent iin the one header, from the sounds of it i guess it's supposed to be there, probably for clearance issues. here i was thinking it was from shipping.

those dents in both the y and the header tube are for clearance. i had these longtubes and y installed last week. they fit perfectly. no banging on the y and no clearance issues anywhere. they barely hang lower than stock. i think my SFC's hang just as low. dont be so quick to complain about the cosmetic issues with them, i mean they are the same header as the hooker which costs about 200 more.

Im not complaining, I love the price and thought the headers looked great the Y is ugly, but Ive never bought headers so what do I know, my dad said the welds looked like crap not the actual header. I could care less what it looks like you wont really see them anyway. I was just worried about the dent in the side of the header, but if they perform like I hope all will be well

i'll let you know in a day or so

today after work i dismantled the top of the car.
3 hours of relaxed work i pulled the coil packs, egr, air, plugs and wires, and unbolted the manifolds (leaving one bolt loose to hold the manifolds in place).

all i need to do is unbolt the Ypipe and drop the manifolds and i'm gonna be slidding the new headers in. gonna see if i can get that far tomorrow AM.

anyone kknow a trick to installing header bolts and gaskets by yourself

use a small amount of red sealant from autozone to hold the gasket on. center everything perfectly

i havnt done mine yet, but have done lots of older cars

let me know how it goes, the next thing i do is going to be LT's and a y pipe
