Coil packs and Missfire
Coil packs and Missfire
This 02 Trans Am is missfiring. We scanned it and got the front O2's are reading lean. Though I doubt the sernsors are to blame. The coil packs show a few problems. The #7 coil is rusted and the metal plates on the side of the coil have rusted up and seperated. The others are starting to show signs of the same thing. I think this is the missfire problem. Does anyone Else have this kind of problem. This should not happend and im pissed that GM could have allowed this problem in this car.
Re: Coil packs and Missfire
a misfire should show up as a code...either cylinder specific or multiple random.
you may be thinking it's missing when really it's just rough due to poor a/f.
i'd change the o2s first
or get a decent scanner and see what cylinder(s) is missing

Yeah, I've got a slight misfire at low rpm/light throttle. The car is under warranty until (gulp) June 6. Two weeks ago, I brought in in for this misfire problem (at 1500 RPM), and the mechanic took it out and flogged it for slightly over seven miles, and it came back needing a new water pump! Which was replaced under warranty.
They tell me I ain't got no miss . . . Sheesh, I've been driving V-8's since the '60's and I've purchased new F-bodys in 1985(T/A), 1996(Z-28), and my current '02 SS. So I guess I'm not qualified to notice a miss am I? Oh, and they tell me that the smell of burnt oil in the passenger compartment is to be expected, and they don't want to check for an oil leak.
I'm taking it in Thursday for squeaky rear shocks and burnt out steering wheel control button lights, and yes, the miss and the oil leak issues WILL be revisited. Grrrr.
