Clunking noise from rear end.

Just bought an 02 z28 and noticed a clunking noise from the rear end area of the car while going over bumps. I was told by the mechanics at the place I bought it from that it was the shocks. I replaced the shocks (which appeared to be loose) and the noise is still there. Any advise would be appreciative!

check your exhaust loop for wear just above the rear end, I found my exhaust had gotten loose at the y pipe and it was off by about half an inch a the loop causing it to bang over "hardish bumps" I just r2 the u clamps and moved it fwd... no more noise!

Thank you. I was kinda thinking that it was maybe the springs. Do the rear springs sit in seats that can be worn out? I will check the exhaust as well.

No seat on the bottom but a seat at the top.

I would bet it was the exhaust as well, I've owned 3 f-bodies and exhaust clunks are common, if someone ran over a curb, which I have done twice myself, then the exhaust could be bent,

Thumbs up Re: Clunking noise from rear end.

I figured it out, it was a combination of the rear lower control arm bushings and the right rear exhaust mount bushing. Replaced those and the noise is gone. Thanks everyone for the advice.
