changing oil today,what should i get? 61k ls1

Hey! going to go to pick up some oil today and I was looking for any recommendations on what to get for my 61k mile LS1. Don't mind spending a little extra to get "the good stuff".

Thanks

If you can find it, the German Castrol 0w-30. If not, M1 5w-40 Turbo Diesel is readily available, even at wallyworld. A lot of guys think M1 30 weights are too thin for LS1s, do some research and come to your own conclusions.

Pretty much took the words out of my mouth. I'd like to try the new Penzoil Platinum synth next time, tho...

M1 5w-40 Turbo Diesel? That is a good one for LS1? Why use that over the the standard 5 or 10 w30?

Poop Boyz sells it ( Pennzoil Platinum ) w/ a rebate every 2 weeks or so - like 15 bux for 6 quarts after rebate.

You just have to wait, and wait, and wait for the rebate.

I'd say that it is on par w/ the Wally World syn I normally use meaning that I can't tell any mileage or performance difference , or any oil pressure difference.

I will run it the same amount as the Wally stuff - 5K or 'til the oil change light comes on, whichever is first.

I am curious as to whether anyone else has tried and if they noticed an improvement - ?

Britt

It gets very good results on used oil analysis, as does the German Castrol. Don't worry about it being a 40 weight, cause M1s tend to be a little on the thin side for their rating. I used to run this oil b4 I could find GC in my area. Back then it was known as "Truck & SUV". It is actually Delvac 1, a very well respected HD truck oil. If GC ever disappears in my area, as it has in many places, I'll go back to the TD. Or maybe try the Pennzoil Platinum as mentioned above. It's been getting good UOAs too.

If you want to learn a lot about oils, search patman's posts here and on bobistheoilguy.com. He's an admin over there.

It's available at Autozone in quarts around here. Quarts and gallon jugs at Wallyworld. As long as you're in Autozone, check the shelf for the German Castrol 1st.

GM recommends 5w-30 Mobil one. Any 5w-30 synthetic will provide protection above and beyond any dino oil.
I will not use any oil other than 0w-30 or 5w-30 in our 3 LS1 cars. When GM changes the spec to 40 weight turbo diesel oil then I'll run it. Until then, no. I've had my motor apart to inspect for wear and at 25k miles with over a 1000 dragstrip passes there is no measureable wear, and still visible crosshatching in the cylinder bores with a tiny bit of scuffing caused by the short skirt pistons. This is actual proof that the so called ''thin'' Mobil 1 synth is doing its job.

I can't find the German stuff, so I think I'm switching to Amsoil next time around.
