The past few times when starting up my car the change oil light comes on then shuts off after a minute or two.

I changed the oil about 3000 miles ago and reset the computer like it said in the manual, but I have synthetic oil in the car and I figure I can go a little more.

My question is - does this light come on every 3000 miles??? Or does something else influence it coming on??

"So says the book", that light is supposed to come on when the engine decides that the mileage and type of driving done since the last change necessitates the oil being changed again. Somehow, it's supposed to "know" when the oil has been used to its fullest potential?! I don't really go by it though............I just try to stick to the regular ~5000 km/~3000 mile schedule.

Thats exactly what I figured - I remember reading something about the computer "knowing" when the oil is due to be changed dependent on my driving. What a coincidence that it came on exactly 3000 miles since the last oil change. I'll give it another 1000 miles - get my money's worth of the synthetic oil.

 

Yeah, mine comes on and off all the time too. Who knows. I just don't like thinking that my computer's smarter than me, kinda degrading, ya know? Lol
