Change oil light
I respectfully disagree withSFB767;
I changed my oil at 4000 MI with Royal Purple 10W-30, drove it once, and had the oil change light come on. My understanding is that it comes on per miles driven.

The computer will signal the oil change light when it thinks it is time. It gauges driving style, temp, and frequent of use and decided on when it should be changed. Not saying that its always correct, but its just to let you know that an oil change should occur soon.
My "Change Oil" light seems to come on about every ~10,000 kms (~6200 miles)........in fact, it just came on today!
I think that once it's reset, it bases how many miles are driven, what the temperatures and stuff are, and probably how hard the car is driven (high RPM driving vs. low RPM driving) and determines "theoretically" when the oil would be due
. It's too bad that the dealer still insists on every 5,000 kms for oil changes though (for warranty) 'cause I'd rather do it every 10,000 if that's when the light says it's due
