catback exhaust

i just bought a 99 z28 and the previous owner had a flowmaster exhaust put on. it sounds nice but the problem is that the muffler is 2.5" inlet and outlet. i would like to put a 3" catback on the car. what is the best catback i can get for around 600$ i had an slp loudmouth on my 95 z28, i liked the performance but it was a little bit too loud. what do you guys think about hooker, magnaflow, or flowmaster.... any other catback? id like to get the most out of my money..

Re: catback exhaust

if you are keeping the cats...the magnaflow is awesome, flows GREAT, and looks really good all polished up. not to mention it's better material than the hooker so it lasts longer.

had it on cars for 6yrs or so...pipes, muffler and tips had no rust

Re: catback exhaust

Magnaflow is a little too quiet for my tastes, but it is a good quality system, and doens't sound bad.

Re: catback exhaust

i like how dynomouth sounds. good flow and really cheap. you could even go with the 18" bullet to make it even more quiet.

Re: catback exhaust

I vote a used GMMG for around $500. Granted they are few and far between, but thats the first thing I would be looking for, that or a group purchase on them. Other than that stay stainless.

Re: catback exhaust

GMMG all the way. Like bersaglieri said, you can find them used for around 500. I picked one up brand new for 600 off here. Best sounding, one of the best flowing, and its stainless. Cant beat it.

Re: catback exhaust

I run the Flowmaster "American Thunder" 3" catback. I love the way it sounds, and gets quite loud when I get on it. I realize that there are other exhausts that flow better, but I've always loved the way Flows sound on a v8.

Re: catback exhaust

my 99 z28 is hugger orange, so i dont want a really loud exhaust. im not trying to draw too much attention to my car. i heard magnaflow on ls1sounds and it was quiet. how does bassani compare? is it worth the extra money?
