car is slow-help

i only ran a 13.81 last week and topped at 103.98 - i feel my car should be a lot faster with all of these mods and i am reading guys with stock cars are running low 13's! 2002 camaro z28 6spd

Are some just slower stock or are these guys "massaging" their time claims? Anything i can do to find out why i am so friggin slow?

cold air induction free ram air mod
ram air lid
k&n air filter
flowmaster
160 thermostat

If you got yourself a set of sticky tires (Nittos) and worked on your launching/shifting, you could take a good 1/2 second off your times. Get that 60' under 2 seconds!!

Reaction times make absolutely no difference in track times, because the timer doesn't start counting til your car crosses the line.

Your 60' time is terrible. As others have said, you just need more practice. Don't feel bad, its not something that people master easily. With your mods you should be able to easily get 2.0 - 2.1, and that should bring you down to the low 13s, maybe even high 12s.

Oh, and get rid of that Hypertech tuning. It is making you run lean, and is probably causing knock retard. You will be better off without it.

Lets start with your mods. I dont see anything in there that will actually give you much. You have:

cold air induction free ram air mod
ram air lid
k&n air filter
flowmaster
160 thermostat
hypertech computer programmed
lou's short stick
3X3 fernco mod

Now if you look the only thing you have done that would increase your 1/4 mile time is the lid and ram air mod. The flowmaster muffler is probobly actually hurting performance. I know it did on my car. I lost power with it. So I got a cut out to give me back the power when I want it. The hypertech does nothing. You might see 5hp from it, but I doubt it. the 160 thermostat wont give you more power, it just helps keep things cooler, and helps the hypertech do its job. But like previously stated, the hypertech does nothing. A K&N filter DOES NOT GIVE MORE HP!!!! I dont know so many people think that its some big power giving mod. The advantage to a K&N is that you can clean it, rather than going out and buying new paper filters all the time. Its a cost savings mod. The fernco 3x3 gave me 1hp on the dyno. but that could have been a random fluctuation, so I discarded that as a mod. Its more for cosmetic reasons. The Lou's short stick wont give you more power. It just helps you shift faster to stay in the power band better. So the only mods to your car that are actually doing anything are the lid and the ram air....but the ram air doesnt even work till about 60mph. Save some $$ and do something big to your car like headers, gears, a cam, etc.

You can buy a 3" cut out from Summit racing. Should be about 30 bucks or so. Take it to any good exhaust shop and have them weld it in to the I pipe. Dont pay more than 30 for the install. It only takes about 10 minutes.

Usually 3 wingnuts hold the cap on, unscrew them pop off the cap and voila. there is also an electric cutout, just hit a switch from in your car and it opens. very nice but a bit pricey.
