Sounds like you got some exposed wires under the car, only way to find out is to jack the car up , crawl around and inspect.

Water on the MAF can cause this. I had a supercharger kit with a relocated MAF on my car and it did the same thing. If your car has one of those cold air kits with the scoop or a Ram Air hood with the baffles out it could be the same thing.

Optispark coil is cracked or coil wire insulation failure.
Possibly(remote) optispark cap is cracked.

I would say the Opti Spark cap is cracked. Have had the exact same problem with other distributer caps in the past, my Opti hasn't acted up yet. You can try WD40 when it is acting up as it will repell the water (that was the old school way). Not sure how the Opti Spark will handle that though. I hear they are pretty touchy.

He's got a 98 T/A, which has the LS1 engine which means no opti.

Sounds like my car....It was a wet MAF...looked dry to the naked eye, all it takes is just a little moisture. Unplugged the MAF and it ran fine.
