Car Confused?? Please Advise... :(

Okay, I am not to excited about this.. My car is pretty much stock, lid and catback. I drive it daily, and has yet to give me any problems. Until this morning...

As I attempted to start it up, it turned over and fired then immediately stumbled down and quit. Did this twice, on the third attempt I gave it some gas after it fired up.. After a second I let off, and it died again... Started it a fourth time and kept on the gas for a minute. It warmed up, and drove fine. No loss of power,, no stumbling, nothing.. Just an odd startup.. It has not been sitting, and I use the same gas from the same place everyday, Mobil, with no previous problems..

Can anyone shed some light on what may have caused this?

could have just flooded it...

i didn't know this could happen on a FI engine, but i had it happen to my 96z last year.

i wouldn't worry too much unless it keeps happening every morning

Yeah, I never give it any gas on initial startup though.. It's cooling down now, will see how it starts at lunch...

Yeah, that is what it seemed like.. But the battery has not been unhooked for months since I did the exhaust... Hopefully it is not the start of the computer going wacky..

I'm hoping it was just a fluke, however it just doesnt make sense...

Re: Car Confused?? Please Advise... :(

you don'thave to give it gas for it to flood

i know i didn't

i tried to start the car 2mins after shutting it off, and i don't think i held the key long enough, so it didn't quite start....then it wouldn't start after that.

Ahh, well that would be a welcomed problem.. I'll be hoping it was something like that rather than an ECU problem..

Yeah, I hope it will fire right up for ya at lunch. If you have any cats or rats mice or snakes, ect in the neibhorhood, I'd take a quick look at the wires and connections. Never say never when it comes to those little guys. I don't know what it is, maybe the thrill of triing to cheat death..

Well she started up at lunchtime just fine... However the car had not fully cooled off I dont think, the temp guage was at about 130... About to leave for the day though, it is cool outside so she should be cold... We'll see how it goes...

My wife's Grand Am had a similar problem. It became hard to start and would stumble like you mentioned and then not start unless I got on the throttle. It eventually wouldn't start at all. Turns out it was the fuel pump.
First time the pump went out in it, it acted very different. Like vapor lock or a plugged filter while driving.
She stopped running it to E and the pump quit going out. Glad they were under warranty.
